Citric Acid is used, from my understanding, mostly to adjust the pH downward. For haircare conditioners the lower the pH (like 4.5) -- along with the use of cationic emulsifiers -- the better the conditioner can be. Here's a short list of info I've compiled from my K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, stupid) notes on Citric Acid:
- Used to regulate PH and for its preservation properties.
- IS NOT A BROAD SPECTRUM PRESERVATIVE.
Use a real preservative and use citric acid to help keep the ph low - Could break the gel matrix if you add it to the final gel made with carbomer or sodium carbomer
